The second night on the MotoGP test in Qatar concluded with former World Champion Casey Stoner at the head of the test.MotoGP 2007 champion Casey Stoner was the man on the pace on night two in Qatar, finishing Monday’s session more than half a second faster than any riders.

Away from the succeed of Casey Stoner, the big news was a heavy crash for Dani Pedrosa, the Spaniard, who did not ride at all on Sunday crashed out at turn 10, re-injuring the knee and hand he bashed at the Sachsenring last year. He was taken to the Clinca Mobile and Dr Costa recommended he go home to check out a suspected wrist fracture.Hopefully he will be fit on the opening round of MotoGp 2009.

Haga and Spies Share Victory on The Phillip Island

Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) took his 1098R to the victory on the opening round of the Hannspree FIM Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island, Australia.

Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) : "One thing that I have is great experience because in 2005 I was in 16th and won a race, so now everybody knows it doesn’t matter where the start position is, we don’t need qualifying! I’m very happy for the win, I have just switched to Ducati, I already had four crashes with the bike, but our team did a great job. In the last two laps it started to rain a bit then on the last lap Max passed me but I put big pressure on him thinking where to pass him. He made a mistake and I won."

Melandri As The Lone Rider For Kawasaki

Marco Melandri admitted his surprise after learning he will be Kawasaki's only rider in their 2009 team. The sole Kawasaki in the 2009 MotoGP championship will run under the Hayate Racing banner.

Both Melandri and John Hopkins had contracts with the previous Kawasaki Racing Team for the 2009 MotoGP season, but the release was clear: 'Rider for the new MotoGP team will be the Italian Marco Melandri.'

However, Melandri claims he has not yet officially agreed to such a project and is waiting to see how the new 2009 ZX-RR performs during the forthcoming Qatar test, which starts on Sunday.

The Japanese outfit have scaled down their entry instead of withdrawing from the competition completely, leaving rider John Hopkins without a ride.

Melandri told Sportsmediaset.it: "It was a surprise. I knew they were looking for a new team name but that was all. They've not contacted me."
